East End Hearing offers a wide range of digital hearing aid choices. We identify the patients' amplification requirements and then select from any one of several hearing aid manufacturers. As a result, we ensure that each individual receives maximum benefit from the hearing aid fitting. East End Hearing performs computerized real ear measurements. These measurements allow us to verify that the hearing aids are providing the correct amount of amplification. We can also evaluate any hearing aids presently in use and arrange for repairs when necessary. Further outcome measurements include functional gain testing and patient satisfaction questionnaires (APHAB, COSI).

Diagnostic Hearing

Hearing testing-is used to identify those individuals who have auditory disorders that may cause a health concern or interfere with their ability to communicate. Hearing tests consist of:

Audiometrics-air and bone conduction, speech reception thresholds and speech discrimination.

Immittance testing-is used to assess the status of the middle ear system and to help identify the source of hearing loss and complaints. This is a valuable resource for physicians in the management of patients withotitis media or other middle ear related problems. As well as assessing middle ear function, these tests evaluate the function of cranial nerves VII and VIII. This test includes tympanometry and acoustic reflex thresholds.

Advanced Diagnostic Testing

Hearing testing-in addition to immittance testing, East End Hearing can provide acoustic reflex decay testing which helps physicians predict retrocochlear involvement. Eustachian tube dysfunction tests are also available. Loudness balance and tone decay tests are additionally administered when considered appropriate.

Otoacoustic Emissions testing-Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) is an electrophysiologic, non-invasive and objective test procedure which measures the function of the outer hair cells of the cochlea (sense organ for hearing). It is used to assist in the differential diagnosis of cochlear and higher level hearing loss. OAE is helpful in assessing hearing deficits in newborns or children who are too young to cooperate for traditional hearing testing methods.
